Having just watched that clip of Defeo as a teenager in one of his earliest contests (my heart melting at the boyish beauty he then displayed), I now feel pretty ashamed about my cuntish remark below. Its substance may be true enough, but the very obvious wish to hurt somebody's feelings was despicable.
Hmmm. You're right. Now, the image seems less one of invincible military might rolling toward victory than something squat, stolid (and environmentally objectionable)--like a tanker of crude oil or (worse) methane gas.
He seems to be turning into more & more of a chubette. (I'd always thought the 'Frank the Tank" nickname was a risky choice, one he might eventually regret.)
